LOTTY is a Little Lucky Black Box 54mm (2") by 38mm (1.5") which creates Random Numbers for use when either playing Board Games or choosing Lottery Numbers.

Board Games

LOTTY can spice up traditional board games where dice would normally be used.

Lottery Numbers

Most people feel that if they think of a number themselves, it won't be lucky. You don't need to blame yourself if the numbers don't come up... 

BLAME  INSTEAD!

Physical Features:

• 7 Segment LED Display
• Light Dependent Resistor
• Push Button Switch
• 2 - AAA Cells

Technical Features:

• Microchip's PIC16LF872 Microcontroller
• Software Controlled Auto-Off Function

Operation Modes:

The particular mode is chosen by how much light is falling on the Light Dependent Resistor (LDR) at the time the Push Button is pressed.

When either mode has finished, LOTTY will switch off automatically preserving battery power.

Dice Spin

Occurs when there's plenty of light falling on the LDR. The numbers Spin like a dice which gradually slow down and stop.

The number becomes Random due to the fact that the light levels during the spin modify the length of the spin and thus effect the final number.

Magic Wand

Occurs when there's not enough light to produce random number spins.

This time LOTTY reads the light level and converts it directly into a number.

The sequence is repeated several times before switching itself off.

The original idea behind LOTTY was specifically to help in the choice of Lottery Numbers. However there are other applications:

Customised Messages and Greetings

The microcontroller used has the capability of In-Circuit-Programming which means that Personalised Text Messages could be displayed and specified when ordered.

The 7 Segment Display can be used successfully to display messages using the Low Resolution 7 Segment Character Set shown below:

Due to the characters' "Low Resolution", certain ones like the "M" and "W" have to be crudely represented. Other characters like "G", "S", "X" and "Z" have duplicates of "9", "5", "K" and "2" respectively.

However "In Context" , messages "are" readable as shown on the left of this window.

Concealed in a Toy Lucky Black Cat

LOTTY concealed in a toy Lucky Black Cat could be an application where Lucky Numbers and Personalised Messages are created by pressing its tummy.

Applications Using Different Displays

The microcontroller used can support up to 17 Display Pins which could represent at least 2 - 7 Segment Displays for numbers up to 99. However more display digits could be implemented if "Multiplexing" techniques were employed.
